In the Fall, I love to read dark thrillers and mysteries. These are some of the books I just finished reading AND really enjoyed:
The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides: 5/5
What a freaking ending! I absolutely loved it! I did not know anything about the book before I read it but once I started, I could not put it down. I was intrigued right from the start and found it to be such a page-turner. The book is about a woman named Alicia who is accused of murdering her husband and stops talking after that. She is sent to a mental institution called The Grove, where she meets Theo Faber, a psychotherapist who is obsessed with her and solving the mystery behind why she murdered her husband.
In the Dark by Loreth Anne White: 4/5
This book is perfect for Agatha Christie fans. It has elements of “And Then There Were None” (by Christie) and it is about 9 guests who are lured into going to a remote luxury spa for ten days. But, when they arrive nothing is what they expected, and now they are trapped and in danger. I thoroughly enjoyed this book… it was the perfect definition of a suspense novel. I loved how facts and secrets about each character were slowly revealed and came all together to explain the ending.
Home Before Dark by Riley Sager: 5/5
This is a perfect read for October (hello Halloween)! The novel is about a woman who returns to the house made famous by her father’s bestselling horror memoir. This was so fun! It was a haunted house story with really good twists. I loved the Netflix show “Haunting of Hill House” (I highly recommend it) and this book reminded me of it. I was absolutely obsessed with the creepy vibe of this book and I was genuinely scared at times, especially when I heard weird noses around my apartment (haha!).
The Guest List by Lucy Foley: 4/5
This book was an easy read and kept my attention the whole time. Guests gather together in an island to celebrate the wedding of a television start and a magazine publisher, but someone turns up dead. This book was predictable but for some reason I kept wanting to read and learn more about the characters. I loved all the point of views and the “perfect lives” portrayed by the characters. It was a bit cheesy at times, but overall, I enjoyed this for the entertainment value and for keeping me guessing!
xx,
Karen
